
Ibadan (Yoruba: Ìbàdàn or fully Ìlú Ẹ̀bá-Ọ̀dàn, the town at the junction of the savannah and the forest) is the capital city of Oyo State and the third largest metropolitan area in Nigeria, after Lagos and Kano. Ibadan is also the largest metropolitan geographic area.
Ibadan is located in the Southwest geo-political zone of Nigeria, 128 km inland northeast of Lagos and 530 km southwest of Abuja, the federal capital, and is a prominent transit point between the coastal region and the areas to the north. The principal inhabitants of the city are the Yoruba people, most of whom are Christian.

The first university to be set up in Nigeria was the University of Ibadan. The Polytechnic Ibadan is also located in the city. There are also numerous public and private primary and secondary schools located in the city. Other noteworthy institutions in the city include the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital also known as University College Hospital (UCH) which was the first teaching hospital in Nigeria.
Each of the 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) have three to four Primary Health facilities on the average.
Ibadan enjoys the largest presence of private health facilities in Oyo state. Amongst them are Oluyoro, Oke offa, Group Medical, Ibadan Central Hospital, Molly Specialist Hospital and Alafia Hospital, at Mokola.
Referral health facilities in Ibadan include the University College Hospital, Adeoyo Teaching Hospital, Oluyoro Catholic Hospital-Private and Group Medical.
According to the 2006 census estimates, the population of the city Ibadan was 1,343,147
Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Ibadan, the climate in the city favors the cultivation of crops like maize, yam, cassava, millet, rice, plantain, cocoa, and palm produce.
